The Red Dao homestay is located in the village of Hoang Su Phi in the mountainous province of Ha Giang in Northern Vietnam. Right in the center of the beautiful village of the Red Dao minority called Nam Hong, located at 800 meters above sea level, the accommodation offers you a great view on the mountains and rice terraces. Thanks to the traditional architecture of the Red Dao people, the house benefits from the fresh air brought by the wind in summer and protects itself from the cold wind during winter. Unlike other regions where fields are usually cultivated away from home, here, homes and rice terraces alternate, creating a harmony between nature and houses.
Staying at Red Dao’s homes will give you the chance to discover their daily life. A modest life close to nature (roof made with latanier palm trees, daily tools made with wood or bamboo). Villagers will also show you their traditional outfit (red in reference to the name of their minority) as well as the local food prepared with vegetables picked in the forest or in their garden and; to sum up, their cultural wealth.
As the village is quite high above sea level, there is only one rice harvest per year. The season starts around June and lasts until mid-October. In addition to the rice fields, the region is also famous for its great tea culture. Hills of tea plants are cultivated and inherited from generation to generation. Some tea plants have been cultivated for decades and even more than a century.
Welcomed by families of the Red Dao people, this stay in Hoang Su Phi, a place still protected from massive tourism will be a unique and unforgettable experience for you.
